Let’s talk about STOMPING GROUND for a second.
So here’s something awesome: Dan Riesser, who was probably my first friend in Los Angeles, is in North Carolina right now about to start shooting his FIRST FEATURE. It’s a bigfoot movie. It’s a comedy. The synopsis is - “A young couple travels to small town North Carolina and ends up on an impromptu Bigfoot hunt that threatens their relationship & their lives.”
The coolest thing about this is that it’s a total passion project for him. He loves horror, he digs indie relationship movies. This is Dan harnessing his efforts and energy and leaning into a project he really believes in. It’s perfect, if you know Dan you can glance at this project and know that the marriage is perfect.
And I guess that’s another cool thing about living in a town like this: eventually some people stop dreaming about their big projects and waiting around. Eventually, people are going to be making those bigger projects. And after enough time, the industry you’re trying to break into becomes the industry you’re in. It doesn’t happen for everybody, but it’ll happen for some. In the next year we’re going to see our friends releasing features, creating television shows, harnessing their passions and making things that are reflections of themselves. Makes me jealous and excited and feel other emotions, too. I wanna celebrate that all day long.

The first time I met Dan, it was Halloween and he had a pizza boxed taped to his crotch. “Do you know who I’m going as?” he asked.
“Yeah,” I said, “You’re the dude from Big Sausage Pizza the porno site.”
“See, this dude gets it.”
I’m super stoked for Dan’s film. I’m also super stoked for the first feature from Dave Seger (which I know is brewing somewhere in his brain). For years, I’ve been saying that one day my grandkids are going to see a photo of me hanging out with Dan Riesser, Dave Seger, and Tom Kauffman and they’re not going to believe I knew those guys back when (and so many of my other talented friends that are eventually going to run this town).
